A note from Leigh before you watch this video

The video you are about to watch was the first time I had ever done this particular presentation.  I was quite excited about it as I thought people who knew this beloved SNL skit would love the deep exploration of its greatness that they'd likely never thought about themselves.

To give the context to those who were not familiar, I wanted to show the video of Jackson's appearance. Unfortunately, I was not able to access the video. So, I did the next best thing.

I acted out the bit of Jackson reading Green Eggs and Ham.

I didn't think much about it. I had done impressions, accents and dialects on stage throughout my stand-up career.

After finishing this presentation, I was approached by an audience member - a Caucasian woman in her late 50's/early 60's - who took issue with me, a white male, doing an impression of Jesse Jackson on stage.

I wanted to share this with you because I believe it is clear that my intention is to show the audience how it took Jesse Jackson showcasing his magnificent oratory in a comedic context for me to see (and hear) the magic of Dr. Seuss and Green Eggs & Ham.

But if it is not clear, and for some reason you are unable to see past the impression, I hope you'll understand my goal is only to honor Jesse Jackson's performance in the best way I could.

With that, I hope you enjoy.

Leigh
